Profile of Artist:
Shri Dalavai Chalapathi Rao was born into the family of traditional leather puppet makers in Anantpur. He was initiated into the art of leather puppet making at the age of 13 by his father. He has also undergone formal training in this craft under the program organized by the District Industrial Centre, Anantpur.
Since last 4 decades he has been making leather puppets for shows with mainly mythological themes. Shri Dalavai Chalapathi Rao is a maestro in leather puppet performances and narration of acts from the epics of Ramayana and Mahabharat.He has performed in various countries, to name few he has done 24 programs in Germany and 10 programs in France and 30 shows in America.
